It was Day 11 of my Germany-France trip and having visited the famous Cologne Cathedral + plenty of shopping the day before, it was time to make a trip to a place that makes me smile and hungry at the same time.
Lindt Chocolate Museum, also known as “Schokoladen Museum” was added on to my place-to-go list since I am a sucker for anything chocolate. I sure was glad the location was just about 5 mins walk from Art Otel Cologne, the place I was lodging.
Greeted by 3 Lindt “Chocolate Bears” at the entrance, I couldn’t helped but to take a picture with them. The place sure was huge inside! I was already eyeing the retail store as well the chocolate themed café even before I had gotten my tickets to enter.
My journey started as I popped some Lindt milk chocolates into my mouth given to every visitors by the ticketing staffs.
As this is a museum, the exhibits sure was loaded with educational boards of text to impart knowledge about chocolates to visitors. From the founding of the chocolate museum, history of its trade, process and production, and also the progression from past to present. Like everyone else, we probably would just glance or only read about interested segments of the information.
In the midst of the museum, be sure to admire the types of cocoa plants and other vegetation in their greenhouse or join a storytelling session which unfortunately available only in German.
One of the highlights was probably the majestic chocolate fountain flowing endlessly with milk chocolate! Wafers were dipped into the chocolate and given to visitors to enjoy its fresh chocolate. Besides that, the museum has its very own production line, showcasing the entire manufacturing process from beans to bars, easily observed through its glass machines.
If you have time, you could even participate in the chocolate workshop and learn the art of making chocolates from the chocolatiers. You could also customized your very own chocolate bar with various toppings at the counter. Be sure to be early as you should expect a waiting time of about half an hour (for me that day).
Finally it was time for some retail therapy as I dashed my way into Lindt retail store. I started loading my shopping cart with bars since the price was considered reasonably cheaper as compared to those in Singapore’s mart. My favourite loot was probably the ruby chocolate which has a naturally pink in colour and a berry taste.
Last but not least was the trip to the chocolate theme café to satisfy my chocolate cravings. Picked the Blackforest cake to pair with kirsche chocolate drink, only to realised it was bad choice since both Blackforest and kirsche meant having cherries as their highlights. It ended up a little overwhelming.
Anyway, it was great having high-
tea (chocolate) with a waterbody view and to experience the interesting chocolatey journey!
